Patti McAleenan is the amazing
woman behind Dream Felt. Patti and I met in
Alaska after she signed up for one of my online needle
felting workshops. She was clearly bitten by
the needle felting bug and our mutual love of needle
felting helped us forge a lasting friendship. Long
afternoons spent needle felting together were rare but
oh so special. Soon, Patti was in the needle
felting supply business - and happily for me, began
supplying my students with kits and supplies.
Her inventory includes ALL of my favorite supplies.
Needle felting was our bond but it
wasn't long before we forged a deeper bond. We
recently became "rare cancer sisters". A diagnosis
of cancer is a tough thing to grasp but when the doctors
tell you its very rare, it becomes even more
challenging. At age 40 (three years before meeting
Patti,) I was diagnosed with Acinic Cell Carcinoma in a
salivary gland. "Very rare," they told me.
Patti was diagnosed with Carcinoid Cancer in her abdomen
last year - "Very rare," they told her. I knew
JUST what she was going through, and I knew she had to
get busy researching to find a specialist out there that
would make her outcome as good as mine. Our talk
of needle felting turned into talks of major surgery,
invasive scans, radiology reports and treatment
protocols. Through it all, we kept laughing and I
would distract her whenever I could with crazy new Felt
Alive dolls or ideas for our businesses. So three
cheers for Patti, she has been through a MAJOR ordeal
this year and we are now Rare Cancer SURVIVOR Sisters
who share a love of needle felting!
