Introduction

Skill Level – Beginner through Advanced

Finished Project - A Needle Felted Head 3" -  5" in diameter

Felt Along with me and learn to Felt Alive as I share the magic of bringing lustrous fluffs of wool to life.  I have designed this tutorial not with a specific pattern in mind, but to create lifelike, humanistic faces that are as unique as you and I.  I can’t say exactly what your finished project will be because you will have so many opportunities for creative expression!

This is a fun journey into sculptural needle felting. Beginners will learn a comprehensive set of skills needed to go on to explore this art form and experienced needle felters will certainly learn new tricks and possibly gain a new direction to take their felting.  I have included many, many pictures and detailed instructions but sometimes it’s SO much easier to watch and learn so I have created video clips to supplement some of the written instructions.

This project can be completed in approximately 4 -5 hours but I encourage students to take plenty of time.

The Possibilities Are Endless!!

Here is how my Online Course works.  Upon purchase, I will email you links to download the pdf files with video links for this class.  You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these files.  Most people already have this program installed on their computer but if you don't - it's free and I can help you with it.  To take advantage of the online videos, a high speed connection is highly recommended!  If you don't hear from me within 12 hours of purchase, contact me.

There are no specific workshop dates, you start when you are ready and work at your own pace.*  It's all on your schedule and in the comfort of your own home!  I am here to answer any questions via email.  I answer email questions at least three times a day.

My goal with this course is your success.  While this project is complicated, the techniques are simple enough even for a beginner.  Some students take off and complete their projects with no additional help from me, while others need a little extra coaching.  I am happy to give a "newbie" or anyone who needs it plenty of extra help!   All you have to do is ask!

I think an online course is a great concept!  It's the next best thing to the real thing!

*Short of circumstances beyond my control, I guarantee email support for three months after the date of purchase. If you need more time and I am here - I'll be glad to help.

Materials and Supplies

There is a wide variety of wool and needle felting supplies available over the internet.    These instructions are based on the use of my favorites.  I do not recommend substitutions but I would be happy to work with you to utilize what you already have on hand.

·    ˝ - 1 oz C1 Norwegian Felting Batts, your choice of flesh tone. And a small bit of brown for the mouth details.   Norwegian C1 is available here in the states in small quantiies from Dream Felt and in larger quantities from New England Felting Supply   And in the UK at www.norwegianwool.co.uk/

·    A small bit (.1 oz) each of white merino for teeth, brown merino and merino color of your choice for eye color.  As well as merino colors for shading and blush – pink and blue are nice for this.  Dream Felt has the perfect assortment all packaged up!

·    Foam Felting Pad - Again - Dream Felt

·    Felting Needles:  I recommend purchasing at least two each of 40 Triangle, 38 Star and 36 Triangle.  Make sure to check out my exclusive Felt Alive Super-Duper, Rubber-Coated, Color-Coded Felting Needle Packs.  They are color-coordinated to go with all of my Felt Alive Workshops.  I sell them here but they are also available at  Dream Felt.

·    1 oz. wool for hair – this is up to you – curly locks (google search will yield great results, Cotswold locks and angora goat locks are my favorites) wool yarn, merino tops, etc.  Again - Dream Felt
