Felt Alive Needle Felted Witch

Yes, Shakespeare said “wool of bat”!

I didn’t use bat wool, but I did use wool batt. 😉 This Needle Felted Witch has so much attitude! She is definitely influenced by the witch I grew up with watching Wizard of Oz.

She stands on her own and is about 14″ tall – no wire armature, just needle felted wool!

Besides her strong needle felted joints, her fab boots are what make her stand so well. Her feet and shoes must be felted dense and strong which takes as much needle poking as nearly the rest of her. 

High heels always help balance the dolls and keep them from toppling over with their immense heads. Finding that balance is one of the joys I find in needle felted doll making.

My needle felted witch was made using undyed wool batting for the core body parts. When that was done I got busy adding her green skin layer with Norwegian C1 wool batting. I used the C1 batt for her clothes, hat and boots as well. Her stockings are C1 striped with merino roving.

So she is always ready to take flight, her broom was fashioned from a bbq skewer and some merino roving. I wrapped the skewer with roving and gently wet felted it down with a bit of soap and warm water (and friction) in my hands. Once that was dry and the roving felted tight to the stick, I genty needle the multi-colored merino onto the stick to make the broomstraw.
