A Dude Named Alice in Needle Felted Wool

This is Alice. He looks like a laid back old surfer dude to me and I just love him! It never ceases to amaze me what comes to life in needle felted wool.

I started out (as usual) without knowing what or who I was going to create. Needle felting is fun for someone like me who doesn’t always have a plan. Things just happen.

I knew I loved the color of the Norwegian C1 wool batting so I started there. I start all my dolls with the head first and when I chose the gorgeous green merino roving for his needle felted eyes, he really did decide who he was going to be. I just followed his lead.

Alice is 100% needle felted wool

He flexes and bends and I didn’t have to bother with a wire armature. His needle felted joints (and the rest of him) are done using the techniques I learned from the Queen of Needle Felting herself. His hair is hand-dyed angora (goat) locks that I needle felted deeply into his head.

Because I was so in love with Alice, I decide to needle felt wool into a bro’ for him. He already met up with Crackers. I caught them down at the lake shore soaking up the Alaskan springtime sun! They are a couple of Laid Back Dudes!
